The beginnings of the Waterman Group were established in 1988 with the launch of Waterman Environmental Services onto the UK market. The company was originally formed by John Lewis, who had served a considerable apprenticeship in the European water treatment arena, specialising in microbial control and identification.

Waterman quickly established itself and became the UK's leading company offering alternative technologies to assist in the total treatment of systems along side or instead of conventional treatments, with Waterman being at the forefront of ionisation treatments, electrostatic precipitation and mixed oxidant technologies.

The Waterman group has been significantly enhanced with the formation of Mercian Science a fully UKAS accredited micro laboratory which is proud to offer two world first exclusive products these being FASTek™ Rapid Legionella , a method for Legionella determination within four hours, and a fully mobile micro lab which can be utilised at the centre of any potential Legionella outbreak to analyse environmental samples. This technology has enabled positive Legionella determination, remedial chlorination and retesting all to take place within 12 hours of a working day. This may have previously taken some 21 days.
